Sheffield’s National Emergency Services Museum has won a national award as the UK’s most family friendly museum. The independent, self-funded museum and charity faced closure following the Covid-19 lockdown period and was saved by a crowdfunding campaign.
Among its exhibitions and features are historical vehicles and equipment including a fire pump dating back to 1710.
Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Helen Shepherd, marketing coordinator at the National Emergency Services Museum.
Helen said: “We won the Best Small Museum Award and we were all very excited and happy about that. And then we won the overall award and we could not believe it! We were speechless, we were screaming down the phone to each other. We absolutely couldn’t believe it that we’d won the overall award which has crowned us now as the best family friendly museum in the UK – which even to say sounds strange, and amazing, and fantastic!”
